240 days and counting!

Tonight I put the bikes into "cold storage", which seems so cruel and heartless to do. But you see, here in the midwest, we tend to keep motorcycles off the road during the winter. Yeah, some knucklehead here or there will likely be seen riding during a snowstorm, and others may scoff and say, "I ride year 'round!" but whatever. Those of us who consider living to be a great option, will likely choose to winterize and dream of Spring arriving early.

Seriously? You ride through the slush and snow? As much as you do in the summer months? Either you have a deathwish or you spent too many hot days riding in the sun with no helmet. Talk about your 'nuthin noggin'. Pure, 100% sailboat fuel for brains.

My view is this: even when people expect to see bikes on the road, many don't SEE us. So when they don't expect to see bikes on the road, they REALLY don't see us. A seen biker is usually a 'live' biker. That's the way I want to stay.

Back to the point....bikes are in storage, resting and generally having a winter nap. That gives me the chance to continue doing all the planning for this trip, which is now a mere 240 days away! It's looking like a bunch of my plans may not come to fruition, but I do know that I will still be taking this trip, no matter what. The exact route may change (count on it), or the places we overnight it may change (pretty likely) or the number of miles we plan to put past us daily may change (very likely), but the trip itself is ON, LIKE THE BREAK OF DAWN!

My pal Stacy always has her rose-colored glasses on and I'm sure she'll be more vocal cheering me on as departure date draws near. She really is quite wonderful about that. Never a glass half empty for that girl. Figuratively ONLY, of course. I think no real glass gets past her with anything alcoholic remaining inside. But that's what makes her fun, and hey, she ain't driving anyway. (She has the fantastic San Fran Mass transit system or BART to take her wherever she wants to go!)

But as Cheeto and Purple Rain slumber together in a chilly barn (those are the bikes, by the way) I'll continue preparing for this trip. If you have ideas on what you'd like to see here as I prep, please let me know!
